On a beautiful late summer night, the Toronto Wolfpack returnedto The Den at Lamport Stadium for the first time in almost two years onSaturday for the inaugural Toronto Wolfpack Canada Cup game against the DCCavalry
Welcomed by a crowd of 1,200 enthusiastic fans including alarge number of returning fans, many of which were dressed in Wolfpack jerseys
The crowd also included former Wolfpack Kit Man, SimonGelder
Facing a DC Cavalry team lead by Wolfpack fan favourite,Ryan Burroughs along with a guest coach in former Wolfpack star, Blake Wallace
After Nathan Roberts looked to have scored from dummy half,the Wolfpack went left with a long pass from Jason Park and quick hands from GregWise and Josh Allan putting Blake Mahovic over in the corner for the club’sfirst try. Nathan Roberts converting the try with a great kick from thesideline.
Shortly after Mahovic was at it again creating a greatindividual try out of nothing, sidestepping two players on a jinking run to thetry line.
Mahovic was at it again when after a great run from NathanRoberts his cross-field kick found right winger, Darsha Wadduwage whopirouetted around his opposite number before scoring with a spectacular swandive.
After a Cavalry turn over deep inside Wolfpack territory theteam would score the team try of the night on the back of a flashing, steepingtackle breaking 60 m run by winger Steven Adu that was followed by two strongruns from Tyrone Rowe and Jason Chuck. After a quick play the ball, Robertsspun the ball out to Wise who threw a long pass to Josh Allan who found BlakeMahovic who found a surging Jordan Henry who stepped inside his opposite numberbefore fending off a cover defender on a 20 run to the try line. The Wolfpack were dominating with replacement prop TyronieRowe ably supported by long runs from Callum Botchar and centre Luke Torocaproving more than a handful with his back of the fence runs from kick offs.Unfortunately, after an error after one of these runs form the back of a scrum,a long pass from Ryan Burroughs found centre, Carlos Vegerano who beat thecover on a 70m run to the tryline. The Cavalry gained confidence from the try and continued toapply pressure to the Wolfpack when against the run of play, Steven Adu fieldeda Riseham bomb on his way to a spectacular individual try that saw him burstthrough four defenders followed by a great step that left DC Calvary, fullbackBurroughs clutching at air on Adu’s 90m run to the try line.

Looking to continue their first half performance, theWolfpack scored early in the second half after a great offload from looseforward, Scyler Dumas saw Callum Botchar use his huge frame and strength tobreak free from the initial tackle and slam the ball down over the line. NathanRoberts converting.
The game then fell into an arm wrestle with both teamsmaking errors and the game losing its flow.
Wolfpack second rower, Jason Park seeing an opportunityforcing his way over from 10m after taking a quick tap before replacementsecond rower, Andrei Bashevsky on the back of another strong run from fullbackMahovic crossed over to score. Roberts converting the Bashevsky try to finishthe scoring.
